KEC introduces E-Learning Ambassadors at the KNUST Obuasi Campus

KNUST Obuasi

The KNUST Obuasi campus has been one of the target outfits for the KNUST E-Learning Centre to promote e-learning activities. This is part of its mandate to promote e-learning activities in the University and its affiliate institutions and satellite campuses

In implementing this plan, there is the need to create awareness and ensure that staff and students on these campuses are inclined to teach and conduct their academic activities online. Thus, on the 20th of January 2023 during one of its capacity building sessions on the Obuasi campus, management of the Centre had some lecturers who volunteered as its ambassadors on campus.

Being proactive as it is, the Centre has already had various lecturers on the main campus in Kumasi as E-Learning Ambassadors. These lecturers are from various colleges and departments of the University. These Ambassadors were leveraged by the Centre to organize its maiden E-Learning Week celebrations during the 2021/2022 academic year. The E-Learning Ambassadors of the main campus have also served as a conduit between the Centre and their colleague lecturers. The Ambassadors of the main campus have over the past year helped the Centre to show that teaching and research supervision online is possible. They have, in their capacity as technology savvy individuals, also helped most of their colleagues to become confident in the use of digitals tools for teaching and learning. The Centre also provides periodic refresher programs in online pedagogy and tools for these volunteers.

Management of the Centre therefore thought it wise to launch the ambassadorial program on the Obuasi campus as well. The program, which was launched as part of the Centre’s second capacity building program on the Obuasi campus, had 6 new lecturers volunteering to become ambassadors.

The Registrar, Mr. Christopher Addo, in explaining the rationale of the program, admonished as many as possible to volunteer to become E-Learning Ambassadors as it will help in their career development. He noted that ambassadors champion the development of the Centre hence they get exclusive rights to programs, seminars and conferences organized by the Centre.

Prof. Eric Appau - Elearning KNUST

Prof. Eric Appau Asante, the Director of the Centre, in addressing the new ambassadors expressed his appreciation for their willingness to do the bidding of the Centre and promote the implementation of e-learning in KNUST. He revealed that KNUST is the premier e-learning practicing University in Ghana. As befitting of its status, the University also has all the facilities required for effective teaching and learning online. This includes an ultramodern 23 e-learning studio facility with the requisite multimedia and IT equipment for effective remote academic activities. The University has also acquired paid zoom accounts for all programs, all in an effort to make it easier to conduct teaching and learning online. He admonished the new lecturers to take advantage of these facilities to promote e-learning on the Obuasi campus. The Director then welcomed the volunteers to the E-Learning Ambassadorial program.
